Urban Outfitters hits a low as the attempted to sell a “vintage” Kent State sweatshirt with blood spatter detail. The clothing retailer known for their urban-dressed up style for men and women has offended people by advertising to sell a Kent State sweatshirt for $129, but this isn't the first controversial product that they have had on their site. Healthy body image advocate, Sophia Bush, boycotts the company after they put a tee shirt that said “eat less” on the front. The online retailer also posted a product of a flask with a prescription bottle lining covering it. Hercampus.com has posted an article of 10 controversial products by the retailer. The Kent State sweatshirt was posted on eBay for the much higher price of a $500 starting bid. Since the release of the product on their website Urban Outfitters has taken the product down, posted it on eBay, and released an apology on their twitter account. |
Hopefully the retailer will learn from their past mistakes and thin twice about how the product will affect their consumers before they post a product on their site. For the full article and apology go to nymag.com
